AFD4400: Airfast® Digital Front End Processor

The AFD4400 is a programmable, high performance single chip solution for the digital front end functionality in radio systems ranging from integrated small cell base stations to remote radio units. It covers the entire transmit, adaptation and receiver functionality from the CPRI interface to the JESD204B interface, while keeping the data path fully software programmable.

The device integrates one ARM® Cortex®-A9 core along with 11 Vector Signal Processing Accelerator (VSPA) cores. These high performance VSPA cores use a highly optimized SIMD architecture with floating point support to enable the massive data throughput required in digital front end processing applications while keeping the power consumption to a minimum. The device architecture provides a maximum of flexibility and scalability to enable a wide set of antenna and bandwidth combinations.

• Signal processing subsystem with 11 VSPA cores, reconfigurable in various multicore processing configurations, providing a total of 1.76 teraflops of signal processing power
• DDR3 and Flash memory interfaces
• Four CPRI interfaces with rates up to 9.8 Gbps, enabling daisy chaining configurations
• 23 JESD204B interfaces supporting up to 8 transmit and 12 receive links
• Time base generator block to control overall system timing in the radio subsystem
• Two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interfaces
• Eight SPI interfaces
• Eleven I2C interfaces
• Four UART interfaces
• Up to 100 GPIO
